NEC LCD Technologies Launches 21.3-inch QXGA LCDs & UXGA TFT LCD

TOKYO, October 21, 2003 --- NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. today announced that sample shipments will start October, 2003 for two different models of the 21.3-inch QXGA TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) modules and December, 2003 for a UXGA TFT LCD module.

New Model Features

1. Super-Advanced SFT (based on IPS) technology achieves a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees.
2. Color models realize16.77 million colors on an ultra-wide color gamut of 72% of NTSC.
3. Monochrome models enable 766 scales per pixel through 256 scales per sub-pixel.
4. Both color and monochrome models offer an adjustment function of gamma characteristics realized by writing the 10 bit internal LUT (Look-up Table).
5. Compact frame structure enables 88% screen share.

By adding three new models to its conventional UXGA color model, NEC LCD Technologies has broadened its high information content, ultra wide viewing angle product line for professional monitor applications such as workstations and monitors. The new modules will be displayed at ‘FPD International 2003’ at Pacifico Yokohama, Japan from October 29 to 31. NEC LCD Technologies’ SFT Technology, based upon in-plane switching (IPS) ultra-wide viewing angle technology, is one of NEC’s core LCD technologies. Since introducing its SFT technology, NEC LCD Technologies has made continual strides to improve its feature set. Each generation of the technology has resulted in further evolution of features: SFT to Advanced SFT (A-SFT): NEC succeeded in increasing module response time two-fold and minimizing color shift when changing viewing direction. A-SFT to SA-SFT: NEC substantially improved panel transmissivity enabling reductions in power consumption and raising of brightness levels. NEC LCD Technologies is committed to developing TFT LCD solutions designed to meet the requirements of industrial and high-value added display applications.
